• Increase of over 30 percent
  • A total of more than 91 million photo payments in 12 months
  • High usage volume enables new trees to be planted for climate protection

Munich, December 6th, 2023. Gini has reached a new milestone: the company for innovative payment solutions processed 9,685,211 photo payments in November. These were made by more than five million monthly active users. The popular “photo payment” feature is integrated into the banking apps of many major German banks and savings banks and has been winning over more and more customers for almost ten years.

The Gini Pay Photo Payment makes paying bills quick and easy. It features a recently revamped, sleek, intuitive, and modern design that is inclusive and accessible. Compared to November 2022, monthly usage increased by over 30 percent, with each user making an average of 1.9 monthly photo payments

The growing popularity is also reflected in the results of a YouGov survey* conducted for Gini in October, which found that of those familiar with photo payments (41 percent), more than half (58.3 percent) now use them. This is an increase of 35.6% compared to a YouGov survey conducted in December 2022**.

Photo payment offers simple and fast functionality

The photo function of the smartphone is used for the Gini Pay photo payment. A great user experience and highly specialized artificial intelligence make the payment process possible. Customers conveniently pay the invoice amount using a smartphone photo, a QR code with payment information, or by sharing a PDF or screenshot directly with the banking app. The function reads the necessary data, such as the IBAN or the amount to be paid, and automatically fills in the transfer form. All the user has to do is authorize the transfer – and the payment is made.

Gini Pay photo payments converted into trees: Donation to PLANT-MY-TREE. Die Stiftung

Gini set a new record for using the feature this November and over the last twelve months: 91.3 million photo payments were made over the entire period.

With this success, Gini also fulfills its responsibility to protect nature and donates 913 trees to the foundation PLANT-MY-TREE. Die Stiftung. It acquires various natural areas in Germany to create, expand, and protect vital habitats for plants, insects, and animals. The trees donated by Gini will be planted near Frankfurt am Main.

“Since the launch of our feature, it has been exciting to see how it has become more and more successful, making everyday bureaucracy easier for users on a daily basis”, said Holger Teske, CEO of Gini. “Processing over nine million photo payments from over five million active users every month is a huge success. Of course, we are also doing our bit for the environment by donating over 900 trees.”
