Banks and savings banks can now update their mobile banking apps to Appleās new design language before it becomes mandatory with iOS 27

Munich, 29 July 2026. Gini has now made its popular Photo Payment feature ready for Apple’s new Liquid Glass design. The SDK update is available to all banks and savings banks that have integrated the Gini solution into their app. By releasing this update early, Gini is providing its partners with a lead time of about two months. Liquid Glass will become mandatory for iOS apps with iOS 27 at the latest, which Apple is expected to release in September 2026. The previous compatibility mode will then be phased out in the new Xcode 27 development environment.
What does Liquid Glass mean?
Apple introduced the 2025 design language with the release of iOS 26. This replaces the recent flat look with translucent surfaces that convey depth and movement, extending from the lock screen to individual controls such as buttons and bars. For banking apps, adopting the new standard will prevent a visible stylistic discrepancy between the app and the operating system.Ā
Benefits for financial institutions and their customers
Thanks to Liquid Glass support, Gini Photo Payment integrates seamlessly ā both visually and functionally ā into the wider Apple device ecosystem. This allows customers of banks and building societies to enjoy a consistent and familiar payment experience. Financial institutions can now plan their transition without having to rush to catch up in time for the iOS 27 launch, as the update is delivered via a standard SDK update and no additional integration effort is required.
The feature Photo Payment is one of the most widely used features in German banking apps, with Gini recently processing over 21 million photo payments per month.
āBy integrating the new Apple design into our SDK at an early stage, we are alleviating the time pressure on our partners. This means that banks and savings banks can migrate to Liquid Glass in good time without any extra effort and offer their customers a seamless experience right from the start,ā said Miguel Palmer, VP of Product & Technology at Gini GmbH.
