September 2025. Gini, provider of innovative payment solutions, sets new standards for accessible mobile banking. With its continuously and systematically revised photo payment feature, Gini specifically addresses the needs of users with cognitive, visual or motor impairments, as well as the growing target group of people over 55 for whom simple, intuitive operation of everyday digital financial services is becoming increasingly important. Gini’s photo payment feature therefore complies with the requirements of the current Accessibility Enhancement Act – Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetzes (BFSG). The BFSG applies to all digital services for the general public that play a central role in everyday life, including online shops, financial apps and ticket machines. The aim is to give everyone equal access to the digital world.

Simple, accessible: Photo payment for improved accessibility

Since the introduction of the new Gini photo payment 2023 UI/UX design, one central goal has been at the forefront: enabling digital participation without compromising user guidance or design. Photo payment guides users through the transfer process step by step. This starts with photographing an invoice and ends with the final confirmation. The user-friendly operation is reflected in a user interface based on the familiar design of the banking app. Features such as the ability to zoom up to 200%, flexible font sizes, landscape mode, high contrast, the translation of images into text, and the option to use external keyboards for operating functions ensure greater accessibility, especially for visually impaired people, older people, and those with limited fine motor skills or technical uncertainty.

Gini makes banking more attractive for older bank customers

In Germany, an increasing number of older people are using online banking services, and this trend is set to continue due to demographic changes. If digital services were designed to be accessible, secure and trustworthy, older users would use them. This is because they often perceive applications as being too insecure, expensive or complicated. In response to this, Gini has developed photo payment, which is easy to use and inspires trust and enjoyment among older generations – an increasingly strategically relevant segment for banks.

Strong adoption rates: over 139 million transactions in 2024

Gini’s photo payment has been available on the market for some time now. With over 139 million transactions in 2024, representing growth of 38 per cent compared to 2023, they are one of the most frequently used functions in German mobile banking. This popular feature is integrated into the apps of numerous large German banks and savings banks, as well as being used by private health insurance companies via the Gini Pay Connect interface. It is also used by private health insurance companies via the Gini Pay Connect interface to the banking app.

Added value for banks: UX innovation contributes to KPIs

Banks benefit from accessible photo payment in several ways:
Thanks to fast and intuitive transactions, app usage has increased, especially among less tech-savvy customer groups
Increasing customer satisfaction by making things more inclusive and user-friendly
Differentiating through accessible services
Regulatory advantage with regard to the Accessibility Enhancement Act (BFSG), which will apply from 2025 onwards

„Accessibility is not just any feature – it is the basis for a truly good user experience”, says Alexander Jäger, CEO of Gini GmbH. „When it comes to financial applications, people expect trust, clarity and ease of use. By enabling photo payment, we are designing a banking application that is accessible to everyone.“

Reference sources:
*Bitkom-study 2024: https://www.bitkom.org/Presse/Presseinformation/Online-Banking-Erstmals-Mehrheit-Generation-65-dabei
**Bitkom-study 2023:
https://www.bitkom.org/Presse/Presseinformation/Drei-von-fuenf-Menschen-wollen-mehr-am-digitalen-Leben-teilhaben

[32

post-19340","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-pressreleases
["GET
