As the Head of Backend and Data, you will be responsible for leading our backend development and data management efforts. This role involves a mix of hands-on programming, architectural oversight, and team leadership. You will drive the development of high-performance, scalable backend services and ensure best practices across the team, including Agile methodologies and effective code review processes. As a Leader, you will be responsible for setting technical direction, mentoring developers, and ensuring the success of backend and data initiatives.

Your playing field at Gini

• You implement and maintain Java-based backend services to support product and business objectives
• You conduct code reviews, ensuring quality and adherence to best practices across the team
• You lead Agile ceremonies (stand-ups, sprint planning, retrospectives) to enhance team collaboration
• You create and evaluate Architectural Decision Records (ADRs) to guide technical and architectural decisions
• You foster a collaborative and productive team environment through effective leadership
• You design scalable backend architectures, optimizing SQL/NoSQL databases for performance
• You manage API design and integrate container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) to ensure smooth deployment pipelines

Skills to be successful

• You have strong experience with Java, Scala, Python, and preferable Kotlin. 
• You have strong knowledge of SQL and/or NoSQL databases, with experience in data modeling and optimization.
• You demonstrate excellent understanding of RESTful API design principles and implementation.
• You have practical experience with web servers, APIs, and frameworks such as Spring Boot or Tornado.
• You are skilled in containerization with Docker or Podman and orchestration platforms like Kubernetes.
• You understand software architecture patterns, including MVC and Microservices.
• You are proficient in message brokers (e.g., RabbitMQ or Kafka) and experienced with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD management.
• You have proven experience mentoring backend developers and driving team performance through guidance, code reviews, and knowledge sharing.
• You bring strong leadership experience, with the ability to set goals, inspire your team, and drive technical direction.
